Warner Brothers has released new character posters for the highly anticipated Dune.
Dune is based on the best-selling science-fiction novel by author Frank Herbert. Set in the distant future, it tells the story of young Paul Atreides, whose family accepts the stewardship of the planet Arrakis. The planet is an inhospitable and sparsely populated desert wasteland, it is the only source of melange, or “the spice,” a drug that extends life and enhances mental abilities. The story explores the multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the factions of the empire confront each other in a struggle for the control of Arrakis and its spice.
Director David Lynch took a shot at a Dune movie in 1984. The movie would fail at the box office grossing $30.9 million from a $40 million budget and was poorly received by the critics, who criticized the screenwriting, lack of faithfulness to the source material.
This latest attempt at a Dune movie comes from Denis Villeneuve, who has directed other sci-fi films such as Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. Dune will be released both in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22.
The new character posters included Timothée Chalamet (Paul), Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica), Oscar Isaac (Duke Leto), Jason Momoa (Duncan Idaho), James Brolin (Gurney), Zendaya (Chani), Javier Bardem (Stilgar), and Stellan Skarsgård (The Baron). There is one character poster missing and that it is of Dave Bautista, who plays Glossu ‘Beast’ Rabban.
