Paramount Plus has released a new trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds that will bring us new adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise under Captain Pike.
Set before Star Trek: The Original Series, Strange New Worlds is a spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery where Pike was a central character in the second season of Discovery, along with Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) and Spock (Ethan Peck) who are also returning to their roles.
Strange New Worldswill also see a couple of other familiar characters with Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) and Dr. M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) who all previously appeared in The Original Series. Other characters in Strange New Worlds include La’an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), a relative of Star Trek‘s iconic adversary Khan Noonien Singh, Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia), and Hemmer (Bruce Horak), an Aenar.
While I am looking forward to seeing Strange New Worlds the character of La’an Noonien-Singh who is supposed to be a relative of Khan Noonien Singh does concern me. In the original series and even in The Wrath of Khan all who were associated with Khan were all on the Botnay Bay. I understand the newer Star Trek shows airing on Paramount Plus have not been perfect and have their flaws, but I must question if we really need a character related to Khan. I will hold my final judgement until after I have watched the series and see how they address the character.
Last month Paramount Plus also made the announcement that Paul Wesley would be playing James T. Kirk in season two which brings up two questions. Why not wait to make that announcement until after season one has concluded and why bring the character of Kirk into the fold so soon? For me personally we shouldn’t be seeing Kirk in Strange New Worlds until the series finale when Kirk officially takes over as Captain of the Enterprise.
Before Star Trek: Strange New Worlds first season has even premiered Paramount Plus announced a while back that the show has already been renewed for a second season and has been in production since January of this year.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to premiere on May 5th on Paramount Plus. Check out the new trailer below.
STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series will feature fan favorites from season two of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY: Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.
