Star Wars: The Force Awakens VFX Breakdown

Industrial Light & Magic, the visual effects company founded by George Lucas released a new video giving you a glimpse of how they transform your favorite scenes into a galaxy far, far away.

Disney and J.J. Abrams while filming “The Force Awakens” made the decision to use practical effects where ever possible one that most fans of the franchise appreciated, especially after the lack of practical effects used in the prequels.

When the original Star Wars trilogy ran in theaters beginning in 1977 there was no use of CGI and without it Lucas was able to bring his vision of a distant galaxy to life in a way no one would of believed was possible.

As great as practical effects are CGI has become a staple in today’s movies. Some shots whether it’s Star Wars, superheroes in Captain America: Civil War or the dinosaurs from Jurassic World will always require the help of a computer.

Some of the moments featured are Rey’s introduction while scavenging on Jakku, Finn leading Poe Dameron through the First Order space station, their subsequent escape and crash landing in the TIE Fighter, General Hux grandstanding for his troops, the attack on Starkiller Base, and Rey’s climactic lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren.
