CBS after several delays has finally announced when the newest Star Trek series will premier with an interesting schedule.
If your a Star Trek fan and have been looking forward to seeing Discovery you will finally get that chance when the newest Star Trek show debuts on Sunday, September 24th at 8:30pm ET.
Discovery will premier and the second episode will then be available for streaming that same night on CBS’s All Access following the broadcast. After the initial airing on CBS the remainder of Discovery’s episodes will reside exclusively on CBS All Access.
With the show airing on a streaming service one would think CBS would not air it like one of their network shows, but you would be wrong. The first eight episodes will be made available once a week through November 5th before taking a break and resuming sometime in January of 2018. If you were hoping to binge all 15 episodes one of the first weekends after it premiers you won’t get that chance unfortunately.
Reggie’s Take:
Discovery was to originally debut this past January and after one or two delays we are finally getting the show this September.
I believe in my last posting about Discovery I mentioned that I was looking forward to watching the series and that still stands today, but I do have concerns with the show and CBS.
First I feel CBS is making a mistake by airing it on CBS All Access when everyone else outside of the U.S. will be able to watch it on Netflix.
2nd, they say the show is set in the original timeline ten years before Kirk and the original Enterprise, but the look of the trailer suggest it’s set in the JJ verse or “Kelvin Timeline”. Not that I have a problem if it is in the newer timeline, but they seem to be sending mix signals.
Also if you look at the poster they released for the shows premier date you will notice a bit of resemblance to the image they created for Star Trek Enterprise blu-ray box set released earlier this year.
Star Trek Discovery:
Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns to television 50 years after it first premiered with STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. STAR TREK: DISCOVERY will follow the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new lifeforms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.
