On November 10th a star-studded cast will all become suspects when Agatha Christie’s best-selling novel, Murder on the Orient Express comes to the big-screen.
Murder on the Orient Express is a detective novel by Agatha Christie and was first published in 1934. In March of 1934 Isaac Anderson wrote a review for The New York Times, saying. “The great Belgian detective’s guesses are more than shrewd; they are positively miraculous. Although both the murder plot and the solution verge upon the impossible, Agatha Christie has contrived to make them appear quite convincing for the time being, and what more than that can a mystery addict desire?”
The 2017 film version is not the first time Agatha Christie’s murder mystery has been made into a movie. In 1974 Sidney Lumet directed a British version that had a classic cast of its own, including Lauren Bacall, Albert Finney, Ingrid Bergman, Sean Connery, Jacqueline Bisset, among others.
This new 2017 version of Murder on the Orient Express is visually intriguing and a cast that features Kenneth Branagh, Michele Pfeiffer and Willem Dafoe who between them have 10 Oscar nominations between them. Judy Dench and Penelope Cruz are the Oscar winners among the remaining cast.
Cast alone will not make the movie great. Will this version of Murder on the Orient Express follow the book exactly or have they taken some liberties to give the audience something there not expecting? I hope this movie is as good as it looks and keeps you guessing even if you have read the book.
