20th Century Fox has released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming X-Men spin-off movie The New Mutants due to hit theaters in early 2018.
When Logan was released in theaters earlier this year it was the only X-men movie Fox had on its schedule for 2017, but for 2018, Fox will release a total of three movies set in the X-Men universe that will include New Mutants, Deadpool 2, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Josh Boone who directs The New Mutants said earlier this year that The New Mutants would stand apart from other superhero movies, saying. “We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe. There are no costumes. There are no super-villains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.”
And after watching this first teaser trailer it’s very clear that this is not your fathers’ superhero movie, but a definite horror movie whose characters have extraordinary abilities.
New Mutants originally debuted in 1982’s Marvel Graphic Novel #4 and later in their own comic run from 1983 until 1991. In 2003 the second New Mutant series was launched and a third series in May of 2009 that reunited most of the original team.
The five main characters in New Mutants are Danielle Moonstar aka Mirage (Blu Hunt), Illyana Rasputin aka Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy), Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams), Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball (Charlie Heaton), and Roberto da Costa aka Sunspot (Henry Zaga). They’ll be joined by a mentor character, Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga).
