If I were to tell you a movie was coming to theaters later this summer that will give you action, comedy and a title spoofing a James Bond Movie what would be your first thought?
If you answered Austin Powers you would be incorrect, but just the thought of getting a fourth Austin Powers would be exciting.
The Spy Who Dumped Me stars Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis as two friends living in Los Angeles when Audrey’s (Kunis) ex-boyfriend shows up with a team of deadly assassins hot on his trail. Audrey (Kunis) and Morgan (McKinnon), soon find themselves on the run themselves from the assassins in Europe and a suspiciously charming British agent (Sam Heughan) as they devise a plan to save the world.
“The Spy Who Dumped Me” plays off a James Bond movie title that is reminiscent of “The Spy Who Loved Me” including a 007-style opening montage that includes a sexy song that’s actually a cover of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” by Michael Bublé.
Reggie’s Take:
I had planned on skipping the trailer initially, but while watching it I found myself curious about the movie and its premise. I’m a huge fan of Mila Kunis from her work on That 70’s Show, Family Guy and her role in the movie Ted. As far as Kate McKinnon, she’s okay I’m just not the biggest fan of hers.
I like the fact that the movies title plays off of a 1977 James Bond film. I even got a huge kick that the beginning of the trailer did the James Bond esc opening with the music, I hope they open the movie in the same way.
The first trailer for “The Spy Who Dumped Me” has put this movie on my radar. I enjoyed the trailer and found myself laughing at several of the jokes. As with any comedy my biggest fear is have they shown me the best parts already or have they saved those for the theater? At the outset I’m probably going to add this movie to the list of movies I plan on seeing in 2018.
