Taika Waititi to Direct New ‘Star Wars’ Movie

Taika Waititi, who won an Oscar earlier this year for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on Jojo Rabbit, has signed on to direct a new Star Wars movie.

Disney and Lucasfilm announced on Monday that Taika Waititi would direct and co-write a new Star Wars film for theatrical release. Krysty Wilson-Cairns who wrote “1917” will be joining Taika Waititi in crafting the new film set in the galaxy far, far away.

Back in January it was reported that Waititi was possibly interested in developing a “Star Wars” movie after his work directing the season finale of “The Mandalorian” the hit Star Wars series on Disney Plus was well received.

Waititi is scheduled to direct Thor: Love and Thunder and begs the question if Waititi’s “Star Wars” film would come before after “Love and Thunder” as there was no date given by Lucasfilm. Another question is this new “Star Wars” movie a part of Disney’s three untitled movies dated for Dec. 2022, 2024 and 2026 or if it’s a totally separate film?
