Fans who attended Power-Con this past weekend were surprised when Kevin Smith announced he was bringing a new anime series based on He-Man to Netflix.
Kevin Smith, star and director of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will serve as showrunner and executive producer on a limited “Masters of the Universe” series coming to Netflix. The new series will focus on unresolved story lines of characters from the original 1980’s animated television series, picking up from where they left off over thirty years ago.
Mattel will produce the series, with Rob David, VP of Mattel TV and author of “He-Man: the Eternity War,” serving as an executive producer. Powerhouse Animation, which worked on Netflix’s “Castlevania,” will animate it. Masters of the Universe: Revelation will be written by Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering) and Marc Bernardin (Alphas).
Kevin Smith had this to say about He-Man returning.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe. In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
No date as to when “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” will become available on Netflix.
Netflix won’t be the only place to get your He-Man fix. Sony has set a spring of 2021 date for a “Masters of the Universe” movie, with Noah Centineo currently in talks to star.
