With no major movies due to hit theaters until 2021 I dusted off a podcast that got lost because of life as we look back ten months later at the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
After originally seeing the Rise of Skywalker in theaters in late December of 2019, I sat down with Matthew a returning guest to talk about Star Wars: Episode Nine The Rise of Skywalker and the Star Wars franchise as a whole.
In December when we recorded the podcast I felt the movie was really good and I gave it high praise for the most part, but after listening to podcast while making some edits I realized I had changed my mind some. I address some of those changes in a new recording I added to the start of the podcast.
Overall, I still find the “Rise of Skywalker” a fun movie to watch even with some of the issues that I now have with it. Was it the right movie to close out the Skywalker Saga? Maybe not, but then again, I was not the one who was getting paid to make those decisions. I really loved The Force Awakens in 2015 and The Last Jedi in 2017, so when it came to episode nine, I had tempered high expectations.
I know there were many hard-core fans who passionately disliked The Last Jedi and the decisions that were made in that movie, but personally I really enjoyed it, Luke’s storyline being my favorite. I respect those fans who have legitimate complaints and gripes about the Last Jedi, but I have no respect for those who did not like the movie and try and call those who did, not true fans. All fans can have different opinions about a movie an honest fan can respect another fans opinion without getting ugly.
Even though the Rise of Skywalker may not of been the perfect movie to close out the Skywalker Saga, I’m just glad that its done so we can hopefully move on with new stories and new characters and enjoy the fun that is the galaxy far, far away.
